Natural Remedies to Treat Ringworm at Home

Surprising as it sounds, the ringworm problem is not a problem associated with any kind of worm. It is a fungal infection that affects the skin. The primary symptom of this problem is scaly crusted rashes that appear in the form of reddish patches on the skin. Other symptoms include patches on the head indicating hair loss in those areas, scalp scaling, blister like lesions and itching. While it must be noted that the infection can be highly contagious, the good news is that there are many natural ways to get rid of this problem. This article gives you some of these tips that you can safely try out if you are affected by ringworm without causing you any harm.

Apple cider vinegar

This vinegar is noted for its powerful antifungal and antibacterial properties. Dip a cotton ball into undiluted apple cider vinegar till it gets soaked. Rub the ball gently over the affected areas. Do this process around four to five times in a day. The rashes will start going off.

Papaya

Cut the fruit into cubes and rub them gently on the infected skin. Alternatively, you can mash the cubes to form a paste and apply this on the concerned areas. Wash off after about 10 minutes. The papain and chymopapain enzymes in papaya are capable of fighting the ringworm and giving you a natural cure without side effects.

Mustard seeds

Soak a tablespoon of mustard seeds in water for half an hour. Grind the soaked seeds to a thick paste and apply on the infected skin. This will give you relief from both irritation and itching.

Aloe vera

This wonderful plant has always been known to help in treating various skin related ailments. It can also help you with ringworm related problems. Squeeze the gel out of the leaves till you get a decent quantity for application. Apply the gel directly on the affected areas and let it remain overnight. Wash off the next method. Continue doing this application till you are completely cured of your problem.

Garlic

When used with honey and olive oil, this pungent vegetable offers very good relief from ringworm. Crush a couple of garlic cloves into small pieces. Make them as small as possible. Add three tablespoons each of olive oil and honey. Apply on the infected areas and allow it to stay for an hour. Rinse the mixture off using warm water. Repeat this process at least thrice a day for two weeks.

Coconut oil

Unrefined coconut oil is a good solution to your ringworm problem. Apply this liberally on the affected areas and let it stay. Do this three to four times in a day. It is recommended that you apply a liberal coating at night just before going to bed. For best results, it is advisable that you continue doing this for a week even after the symptoms have gone so that the infection goes off completely and does not recur.

Salt water

Make a saline solution by adding about quarter to half a cup of salt to warm water. Soak the affected areas in the warm water for half an hour. Another way you can use salt is to make it wet mildly to form a salt scrub. Take a little scrub in a wash cloth and rub on the infected parts. Do this process for about 15 to 20 minutes daily.
