Flaxseeds offer immense therapeutic as well as beauty benefits and are popular all over the world. Flaxseeds are one of the oldest crops in the world, first being cultivated around 3000 BC in Babylon. The benefits come from the high fiber content, the antioxidants and the omega 3 fatty acids that are present in flax seeds. It contains lignin, which destroys free radicals in the body. It also offers anti-inflammatory as well as antioxidant properties.

Flaxseeds can be taken in many ways, by adding them to smoothies or salads and soups and even in baked food or sandwiches. You just need two tablespoons of flaxseeds a day.

Flaxseeds are also known to be good for acne. They control the sebum production. Sebum is the oily product of skin glands and they cause acne. Flaxseeds are high in lignans, which lead to a balance of androgen production. Excess of androgen can cause acne. Flaxseeds also make the skin cell membrane stronger and hydrate the inner layers of the skin, making it less vulnerable to hormone fluctuations, so if your acne is connected with hormones, flaxseeds in the diet can solve the problem.

Face Mask

Flaxseeds can be ground and made into an effective facemask or scrub. It heels exfoliate your skin. The ground paste can also be mixed with honey or yogurt. It can be applied to the skin and left for a few minutes before washing off. It removes the dead skin, rejuvenates the skin and makes it silky smooth.

Benefit for Hair

Flaxseeds contain proteins, calcium as well as zinc, magnesium, combined with iron, omega 3 fatty acids, all of which are needed for healthy growth of hair. Flaxseeds taken daily can result in strong, vibrant and healthy hair. The omega 3 fatty acids enhance the hair elasticity and result in less breakage, making hair stronger. It also has anti-inflammatory properties, which reduce dandruff and eczema, stimulate sebum production and prevent flaking.

Flaxseeds contain alpha-linolenic acid and inhibit the production of 5 alpha reductase, preventing baldness in men. It can, therefore, be used as a natural remedy for treatment of male baldness.

Hair Mask

Flaxseed oil can be directly massaged on the scalp at night and then rinsed out the next morning, promoting healthy growth of hair. You can also make a hair mask by blending flaxseed oil with aloe Vera oil, lavender oil and chia oil to produce an amazing hair mask. It can also be applied to the brittle ends of the hair or sprayed on to it. Flaxseed oil can also be mixed with jojoba oil and sandalwood. Apply this mask to wet hair and leave it on for half an hour before washing it off.
